If it is your first time owning a bird, I recommend one. I also recommend only getting one if you want it to bond with you. If you get two and start out with two, they will only focus on each other and likely will not bond with you. It isn't always the case but getting one is definitely best for first time bird owners or owners wanting to train and bond with their bird at all times. Cockatiels need a lot of attention and stimulation.
